- Diseases of the nervous system and sense organs (8%). Common neurological disabilities include epilepsy, Parkinson’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis (MS), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and muscular dystrophy. Diseases of the sense organs can cause loss of vision (visual acuity) or blindness, hearing loss or deafness, or loss of speech (the ability to be heard or understood, or to sustain speech).
- “Other” impairments (18.5%).
