Recently, Joseph A. Ginarte has been named counsel for the National Coalition of Latino Officers. The National Coalition of Latino Officers is a nonprofit organization that is seeks to increase the representation and advancement of Latinos within the criminal justice system. The organization works toward this goal by empowering, strengthening, and unifying Latino Law Enforcement Associations and Organizations. Mr. Ginarte’s devotion to the Latino Community and legal experience will make a substantial contribution to the National Coalition of Latino Officers and will help ensure that Latinos in the criminal justice system are treated fairly.
The Latino Community and civil rights have been particular passion for Mr. Ginarte. In 2007, the Ginarte Law Firm represented five Latino members of the Hoboken Police Department in a federal discrimination lawsuit against the City of Hoboken. The suit was based on claims of hostile work environment and racial harassment that took place within the Hoboken Police Department.
Mr. Ginarte and the discrimination attorneys of the Ginarte Law Firm obtained a two million dollar settlement. In a case that was never about money, the settlement was a fair resolution. The case also highlights that unlawful discrimination can occur at any workplace, even at an institution devoted to enforcing the law.
