Here’s a news item we like – the New Jersey Department of Transportation has announced a series of ‘Complete Streets’ policy and design workshops. The NJDOT announced the upcoming seminars in a press release in April.
Why are ‘complete street’ policies important? They mean greater safety for all New Jersey road users, including bicyclists and pedestrians. Following is an explanation from the release:
“When projects adhere to Complete Streets principles, pedestrian, bicycle, transit and mobility-impaired accommodations are no longer an afterthought – they become an integral feature of an overall capital investment design and plan.”
NJDOT is recognized as a national leader for advancing Complete Streets policies, with our state receiving the highest ranking among the more than 210 communities and states that have adopted formal Complete Streets policies, the release states.
We applaud every effort by our NJ transportation officials to make our streets and highways safer by cutting down on car accidents.
We hope all New Jersey street users reach their destination safely.
