Recently, we wrote about a Clifton, New Jersey, construction worker who fell through a roof and into a tub of nitric acid. We also wrote about a Secaucus construction worker who fell to his death from a crane. Now, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) wants N.J. construction companies to better protect their workers from falls.
OSHA is currently investigating the construction site falls in both Clifton and Secaucus, as well as several others in the state. According to federal labor officials, N.J. construction companies need to take more steps to ensure that their employees working above 6 feet have the proper equipment to protect themselves from falls.
Construction falls remain a big problem in N.J. and across the country. There were more than 10,000 injuries and 250 deaths as a result of construction falls in 2010.
